Let’s take concrete action steps on your 2021 ADU goals, together!
It’s been a whirlwind of a New Year, and here at the nonprofit Napa Sonoma ADU Center our 2021 survival tactic is to focus on the concrete action steps that we can take to move forward, one step at a time, to increase housing in our community and make smart decisions for ourselves and our families.
For homeowners considering building an accessory dwelling unit, we know that the initial steps of an ADU project can feel overwhelming at times. There is so much information to digest, and so many important considerations — especially when it comes to the all-too-often fraught topic of finances.
For many of us, our home is our largest financial investment — and an ADU comes in as a close second. The good news is, an accessory dwelling unit can be both a strategic new financial investment, and also a solid re-investment in your initial property, increasing your return on investment in both significantly over time.
Some of the best financial advice I’ve ever been given is to never, ever make a money decision that you do not understand. This seems like pretty obvious advice, and yet so many of us — myself included — have made the mistake of not heeding it!
Whether it’s because we’re embarrassed to ask “dumb” questions, or we’re too overwhelmed to dig in and ask the tough questions, our nonprofit is here to help ensure that YOU don’t make this mistake when it comes to your ADU, whether with regard to planning, design, permitting, construction, or financing.
That’s why I’m thrilled to share that on Wednesday, January 27 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm we will be holding a webinar on How to Finance Your ADU, focused on educating Napa and Sonoma County homeowners about the various financing options for your ADU project and introducing you to a number of lenders and institutions in our region who can help you. Join us by registering today, and get ready to ask ALLLLL the ADU financing questions!

Neighbor Spotlight: Cheryl, Lee and Kathy in Marin
When Cheryl and Lee were expecting their first child, there was an inescapable pull back to Marin. Unable to find something affordable, the couple moved temporarily into Kathy’s, Cheryl’s mother, pool house. Watch how they turned that temporary pool house into a permanent ADU.
