Support the ADU Center
Small Homes Make a Big Difference
Accessory Dwelling Units—ADUs—give people the chance to stay in their homes and remain part of the communities they love, when they might not otherwise be able to.
Our mission is simple: to make life easier for homeowners navigating the complex process of building an ADU. We provide education, personalized guidance, and trusted resources—helping people turn their ideas into homes that keep families and communities strong.
Our services are free for homeowners, thanks to generous support from local foundations and county agencies. But those funds don’t cover our full costs—and the demand for our help is growing.
Your contribution—no matter the size—helps ensure that anyone can access the information and guidance they need to build an ADU, keep loved ones close, and stay in the communities they love.
The ADU Center is a fiscally sponsored project of Community Initiatives.

Scott Johnson, Executive Director
Scott Johnson has more than 20 years of experience in project management and urban planning. He has worked statewide for public agencies, private clients, and non-profits on environmental studies, urban infill and equitable housing projects. His work in policy and urban planning is grounded in his early experiences in construction. In recent years he has focused on ADUs as a mechanism to help bring equity and availability back to housing in California. ADUs provide a unique opportunity to provide local housing for local workers while providing flexibility and resilience to the home-owners that build them.
Scott lives in Sonoma County with his wife and children and enjoys hiking, camping, and talking about ADUs to anyone who will listen.
